ADDITIONAL CHECKS TO DO FOR ONLINE EXAM SETUP:


Below are some additional checks you can run on the device and network you are using for the exam. Remember that your device / apps settings could be changed at any point as you are working on various platforms. These checks will assist you to double check the following:

You should receive only green confirmations for the tests below. If you receive any red error messages for the mic / webcam or 3rd party checks - send a FULL screenshot to [email protected] for assistance.



Webcam and browser settings

There are additional security requirements to ensure exam authenticity. If these are not met, students will not be granted access to the exam.

  1. Students must ensure that their webcam is set up correctly. 
  2. Students need to be aware of and accept that proctoring methods have been incorporated into the PoE and the online exam to detect irregular activities. In order to enable these, students must also allow certain browser permissions. Please watch the video's for instructions.


Webcam functionality on your device 

  • You will not be able to pass the system check if the camera on your device is not functioning correctly. 

  • Make sure your camera is not covered at any stage and that ALL other apps are closed as these could be using the camera function.

Mic functionality on your device:

  1. You will not be able to pass the system check if the mic on your device is not functioning correctly. 

  2. Make sure your mic is enabled on your device and set to active (not muted).

  4. This DOES NOT check that you have allowed your mic access in your browser - make sure to do this in Chrome for the exam. This check is only to find any issues with your device mic.




Clearing of cookies and global Chrome settings BEFORE THE EXAM


Students must ensure that the cookies in the Chrome browser are cleared and that their global Chrome third party settings are allowed before they enter the exam on exam day.


This will ensure that there are no permission blocks in the back end of their browser that could block the entry to the exam room at any stage during the exam session.


Please note that when using a third party device or network e.g. library, college, work, these institutions may have third party cookies or firewalls that may not allow you to connect to the exam. Make sure you have discussed the use of third party cookies with the relevant IT department to avoid issues on exam day.
